Here is some helpful info if you are going to FOSDEM 2023 this year.
FOSDEM
> When?
Feb 4-5, 2023
> Where?
Campus du Solbosch
Av. F. D. Roosevelt 50
1050 Bruxelles
Belgium
> What is it?
FOSDEM is a free and non-commercial event organized by the community for the community. The goal is to provide Free Software and Open Source developers and communities a place to meet and:
- Get in touch with other developers and projects;
- Be informed about the latest developments in the Free Software and Open Source world;
- Attend fascinating talks and presentations held in large conference rooms by Free Software and Open Source project leaders and committers on various topics;
- To promote the development and the benefits of Free Software and Open Source solutions.
- and to SHARE knowledge
Sharing knowledge and ideas is the most valuable thing you can get during FOSDEM, and it’s free. There is no excuse not to be there. Visit their website for more info as well.
> Schedule
The correct link is here if you want to look at the schedule. If you are visiting for the first time, you might have the impression that there are too many talks, and you are right. The trick is to explore the program and visit the ones that interest you. (also, please be advised that they might be held in different buildings).
Many apps will help you get oriented and build your schedule if you have a mobile device.
My personal choice lies within three rooms:
> Booths
Apart from talks, much free software and open-source projects will present their work on various stands inside the building. You can go and talk to them about what interests you and get some stickers or even something more significant from them to appreciate the support.
> Volunteer
If you want to have fun, consider volunteering. A community of active people with an open mindset runs the entire event. Join them from here.
Other useful info
> Co-working spaces
Work with other hackers in Brussels for free before and after FOSDEM: Beta Cowork and Transforma BXL. If I am correct, they offer one test day as a start, but check out their pages for more info.
Hotels and Hostels
> Center
Click here to see hotels near Grand Place and the Delirium Cafe (ordered by price, lowest first, with breakfast included, which is very important for this city).
This location is near all sights, and it’s a good idea to stay here instead of close to the venue.
> ULB
Click here to locate the best offers for hotels close to the Venue – ULB.
Feel free to play with the filters to modify the search!
Beer
Just visit this site. I highly recommend the pub crawl tour for just 14 euros.
Food
There is no food in Brussels. :)
Free walking tour?
Yes, it’s available. It’s held in English and Spanish, and it starts at 11:00 am. Click here to learn more.
More attractions?
Brussels is full of attractions for everyone. If you have a few free hours, click here to see what this fantastic city offers. Look at the Train World Expo :)
Do you want more FOSS events?
If more than two days and hundreds of sessions are not enough, check here for the related events, usually held the day before or after FOSDEM.
Still, need more info?
Feel free to ask me, and I will help you, especially if this will be your first visit. If you are living for Free software or Open Source – you must be there.

Would be cool to mention that Brussels also has great high speed rail links, so you don’t have to fly!
You are right, but only to the neighbors countries.
