In June a 2 day event will take place in will take place in Sofia, Bulgaria, under the title ‘OpenCamp Sofia‘, addressing open government, PSI re-use, Open Web, Free Software and Open Source, Open Knowledge and other important topics.

On the first day a workshop/camp will be held. Both presentations (a growing list of presenters is on the site) and discussions are planned on topics such as Open Web, Open Government, Open Knowledge, and Open source software. In that context PSI re-use is sure to be part of the discussion as well.

On the second day a Mozilla-related event will be held. At the same time in Sofia will be next Balkan’s Meeting of Mozilla Communities.

BACKGROUND

Bulgaria Web Summit is the new name of the conference, which started back in 2004 under the name WebTech and then was renamed to P2P Conference.

We started WebTech in 2004. The aim was to provide a forum, where people, interested in web programming, development, Internet entrepreneurship and so on, could meet and exchange ideas.

Our main purpose is to show the innovations, to promote technology and to find a way to cooperate. So far our guests include Richard Stallman, Derik Rethans, Landon Bradshaw, Marko Hassinen, Kai Arno, Michael Widenius, Robert Niman, Patrick Finch and many other foreign and Bulgarian experts.

Some facts:

• So far the conferences have been visited by more than 6000 people, a fact in big favour of the quality; The conferences have been held in 3 majour Bulgarian cities: Sofia, Varna and Veliko Tarnovo;
• Several business deals for Web 2.0 projects were concluded at the conferences, which demonstrates that our events are a useful meeting ground for investors, starting enterprises and people with ideas;
• We have been supported by many sponsors through the years, which shows another useful aspect of the conference;
• Many famous names from Bulgaria and abroad have spoken at our conferences – we are very serious and we help our audience;
• We provide a forum for visionaries – we are the first place where their concepts are presented;
• The events are visited by whole corporate teams, which apart from the conference agenda, can have a great team building;
• All the web and IT people know our events and have positive opinion about them. This is evident and from the fact that more than 20% of the participants have come more than 3 times to our events;

- join groups by topic (SUMO, Thunderbird, Firefox, L10n, Development and others);

- read the information from other members;

3. We are ready to extend with web 2.0 services like twitter and other (no Facebook sorry);
4. The platform (WordPress and Budypress) is very easy to install and run a community website. If you want we can help you to create a Mozilla community website. We will do it together, just send us a note (and a beer).

The champagne will be open on your next community meeting. We have some improvements in our roadmap.

Help needed
We are searching for a good SUMO forum for our community. Any suggestions?

Idea
It will be very cool if we have a global Mozilla network, not only hundreds of community sites. Something like a profile in a server with OpenID or Oauth support. I would like to use our website like an interface to this service only and to be able to connect with a lot of mozillians, not only registered in my country.

Pirate Parties International exists to help establish, to support and promote, and to maintain communication and co-operation between pirate parties around the world. Pirate Parties International is not a political or authoritative entity.

The two Co-Chairmen of the PPI board will be Gregory Engels from Germany and Jerry Weyer from Luxembourg. Nicolas Sahlqvist from Sweden was elected Treasurer and Joachim Mönch from Germany is the new Chief Administrative Officer of the PPI. The board is completed with Bogomil Shopov from Bulgaria, Jakub Michalek from the Czech Republic and Aleksander Blagojevic from Serbia.

Happiness
Why am I happy? There is a strong idea for Open Web and openness I am taking part of, called Mozilla and there is a political movement that stands for the same things. One of my first tasks will be to introduce the Mozilla Drumbeat idea to the PPI Board and to find a way to participate.

I think both ideas – OpenWeb and Pirate Principles are the future of Web.

Founding members of the PPI were Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Luxembourg, Portugal, Romania, Russian Federation, Serbia, Spain, Switzerland, The Netherlands and United Kingdom.

I will try to talk about “What is Web” in front of students, artists, politicians, IT professionals, teachers and business owners.

The main idea is to clarify what Web means to all groups present. Is it the space where you publish some files for your clients or is something more. Is it all about sharing or it is some place to meet new friends?

After the speech we will make a large group workshop for creating idea how to make the web better. The group with the best idea will receive a prize – a journey, immediate after the workshop.

P2P Conference
I am organizing this event since 2004. This years speakers will be Michael Widenius, Patrick Finch, Robert Nyman, Jeremmie Zimmermann, me and other good guys and girls.

I will share more details and ideas soon.

Baba Marta is a Bulgarian tradition related to welcoming the upcoming spring. The month of March, according to Bulgarian folklore, marks the beginning of springtime. Therefore, the first day of March is a traditional holiday associated with sending off winter and welcoming spring.

Romanians also have a similar but not identical holiday on March 1 , called “Mărţişor”. If and how these two holidays are related is still a matter of debate between ethnologists.
